University of the Philippines Village or UP Village is a barangay of Quezon City, Philippines, which contains the original housing projects for employees of the University of the Philippines.The barangay borders the barangays of San Vicente to the north, Old Capitol Site and Central to the west, Barangay Teacher's Village East and West to the south, and the University of the Philippines, Diliman Campus to the east.EtymologyThe name UP Village is derived from combining the name of the Philippines' premiere State University - University of the Philippines and Village since the barangay's area was initially conceived as a housing project for employees of U.P.HistoryBarangay UP Village was established on June 25, 1975, pursuant to an executive order 25, signed and issued by Norberto S. Amoranto, then mayor of Quezon City.The executive order was issued pursuant to Presidential Decree Nr. 557 dated September 21, 1974 which repeals Republic Act Nr. 3590, as decreed by then President Ferdinand Marcos which orders the dissolution of all existing barrios and converting them to barangays.By the enactment of Republic Act Nr. 7160 (Local Government Code), the barangay was given more powers, duties, and responsibilities as the most basic government unit.The barangay continuously grows as officials roll-out policies and ordinances them will help promote the welfare, safety and security of its residents.
