Tandang Sora National High School

The Barangay Tandang Sora’s growing need for a secondary school was a great opportunity for Dr. Noemi Moncada, former principal of Culiat High School, to establish its annex. Dr. Moncada had the opportunity when she went to the Division Office to mend some legal problems and accidentally saw a letter of the Barangay officials of Tandang Sora to the Department of Education requesting for the establishment of the high school in the neighborhood.

With the help of Barangay Captain Sabino D. Apo and other Barangay Councilors, the Culiat High School- Tandang Sora Annex began construction on September 1999. Former Congressman Dante V. Liban helped fund the project.

However, construction was stopped due to an order issued by the government to hold all public officials’ project in abeyance with the onset of the national elections.

Initially, there were no classrooms available for the first batch of students of the school. Upon learning their plight, the students and teachers were offered by the Barangay officials to hold classes at the multi-purpose building. Gradually, as the student population increased the teachers were left with no option but to hold classes under trees and stairs.

The CHS-Tandang Sora Annex was a picture of a deprived, depressed and truly underserved school then.

Today, it is starting to grow with the establishment of two buildings and a new building constructed at the newly donated adjacent lot. It has reaped honors and recognition from the students in various interschool competitions.

Barangay Tandang Sora is a growing community, highly urbanized, the business flourish and surrounded by subdivisions among rural residents migrated to the community. As a result the enrolment for SY 2009 - 2010 increased tremendously.
