HISTORY OF TAGUMPAY NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

The former General Licerio Geronimo Memorial National High School – Tagumpay Annex, now known as Tagumpay National High School was established on June 30, 2003 with its seven pioneer teachers who started as volunteer, namely: Armi Cruz, Gina Manigo, Gerico Sabado, Celedonio Borricano, Jr., Laila del Rosario and Roel Deang under its first officer-in-charge, Mr. Leoncio Gervacio. As a call to quality education, additional volunteer teachers were hired to fill the need of the school, they were: Dr. Greg C. Velarde, Ana Lucia H. Alba, Gina C. Galapon, Ruby Claire C. Lictaoa, Marites G. Ancheta, Diomedes Angeles, Lenie S. Santos and Eleonor R. Talens.

The enrolled students reached 600 in numbers but the pioneer teachers started without instructional materials and facilities but it successfully delivered its mission and that is to bring education at their doorstep.

Another leap of success was experienced under the leadership of Mrs. Ma. Cristina C. Camarse who concurrently seated as principal of Montalban National High School. With love and labor for TNHS, additional teachers were added to its increasing number and so with the school facilities. The following were donated under her stint:
1. Teacher’s table donated by Iglesia ni Cristo Central Office (also the donor of the school lot);
2. Volunteer teachers and other financial assistance through Municipal of Rodriguez;
3. Students’ chairs, provincial items for teachers, school building and covered court were the support provided by the Rizal Provincial Capitol;
4. Instructional materials as well as additional teachers were lent by Montalban Heights NHS through Mrs. Camarse’s effort.

Through fund raising, more equipment were purchased on the same school year like Karaoke, DVD player, kitchen wares, sala and dining set, a set of computer, sewing machine and other school facilities.

At the end of the same school year, upon the completion of the required number of teachers and facilities, Mrs. Camarse requested for the approval of school’s autonomy by being an independent from being an Annex of Licerio NHS.

Her footsteps were followed by beloved principals Dr. Maria Cristina S. Marasigan and Mrs. Clarita C. Nocon, under their dynamic supervision and leadership, the school continued to grow.

2006 to 2010 paved way for the leadership of Mr. Remegio B. Olesco, the school enrollment increased an additional of 543 from 972 students, and the number of funded teachers also increased an additional number of 15 from the original 7.

Ranking in test achievement kept TNHS as an achiever. TNHS was fortunate enough to be a recipient of the 21 sets of computers, HP C5280 Printer-Scanner-Copier (a multi-function printer) and an LCD projector which was given by the Office of the President through the courtesy of Commission on Information and Communication under the Department of Trade and Industry. With the steadfast dedication, more improvement was done to the school including TLE shop room which was given by DepEd for winning first runner up in the Food Sustainable Production; a 2-storey 6-room Ynares type building was also built and inaugurated in May 19, 2010. Improvements were kept made to sustain the need of every student for a conducive environment. For an easier access and communication of PTA to its external stakeholders, a PTA office was also built. Moreover, a Science Laboratory was also inaugurated while a 4-storey building was also in line to be built during that time.

SY 2010-2011 marked the arrival of its next principal Mrs. Elvira Q. Pahati from San Jose NHS. It was August 9, 2010 when she started her journey. Transparency, dedication and discipline were her priority. Under her leadership, students and teachers’ welfare were emphasized by making all offices accessible. Thus, she pursued to have a library, a guidance office, a clinic and a computer room. She also makes it a number 1 agenda to elevate the importance of continued teacher education by sending teachers to different seminars. Parents’ involvement in all activities was also prioritized. She also gave her utmost support in the involvement of students to organizations such as Boy Scout of the Philippines, Girl Scout of the Philippines and the Philippine Red Cross Youth Club.

It was September 2013 when Dr. Maria Cristina S. Marasigan returned to her homeschool. She envisioned TNHS to be a competitive and quality school. In a short period of time she managed to improve the Principal’s Office. She also delivered a different form of leadership by recognizing teachers’ performance and emphasizing a training and education development for each teacher. Through the help of PTA she initiated to have the following additional facilities:
1. Paging system – for fast action and communication as well as events announcements;
2. 16 Channel CCTV – to enhance students and personnel security;
3. Renovation and improvement of Accounting
4. Installation of a Property Custodian Office and improvement of Stock room;
5. A more secluded Guidance Office;
6. A fully organized Registrar’s Office;
7. Improvement of School Clinic and putting in a duly licensed nurse/teacher;
8. Continued refurbishment of H.E. Room;
9. Improvement of the ICT Room (recipient of 50 computers under DCP);

One cannot fully understand an administrator’s task as she has in a mind to build more facilities such as Audio-Visual Room, a complete Library set, student reading and remedial center. As of August 2014, TNHS has a total of 6 school buildings, 25 instructional and non-instructional rooms, 81 faculty and staff; 75 teaching and 6 non-teaching personnel and a student population of 2, 424. The school is also active on the following organization involvement SSG, BSP, GSP, RCY and other academic school clubs and recognized as a performing school by ranking first in contest such as Gulayan sa Paaralan, Best TLE shop room, Best Brigada School implementer, Science quiz bee, TLE showcase of talent and an active partner in Silid-Aralan.
