Shan-Shui Golf and Country Club

Kour Nam Ngum is chairman and CEO of Comsa Farms Berhad, the owners of Shan Shui.

Shan Shui in Cantonese translates into “mountain and water”, signifying two predominant features of the site, namely Mount Tinagat which stands guard over the course and the Membalua River which treads through the layout.

Officially opened by former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed in 1997, Shan-Shui GCC has achieved worldwide acclaim in a short spell.

The challenge comes in many forms, depending on where your ball lies in the first place. There will be no shortage of water-ridden affairs with as many as 10 holes coming into contact with the liquid hazard. These take form in deep lakes, streams and river gorges, resulting in a number of defining shots from the tees or off the fairway.

Shan-Shui Golf & Country Club is now the nearest golf course to the Tawau international airport and thus, enjoys easy access.

This means those arriving early can look forward to a pleasant round at the club provided they come directly to the club which is situated before Tawau town.

Shan Shui Golf & Country Club was the largest individual winner with four awards. Designed by Nelson & Haworth, Shan Shui, located about 30 minutes by plane from Kota Kinabalu, was honored as Best Club in Asia, Best Club in Malaysia, Best Par-Four (15th hole) and Best Par-Five (fifth hole).

The Golf course is built into the terrain and is different from other courses in Asia. The natural terrain is a living structure that was built in harmony with the environment. The new international airport completed in 2002 helps bring people to the course.
