More about Philippines Below Sea Level

Consisting of about 7500 islands, the Philippines has a total of 33,900kms of coastline and ranks as the 8th longest coastline in the world. The archipelagic nature of the country makes it a

biodiversity hotspot both in terestrial and aquatic environments. It has been found to be the epicenter of the world's marine biodiversity making it home to the richest marine life on the entire

planet. Studies reveal that the country is home to 488 species of corals, 981 species of bottom-dwelling algaes, 2824 fish species, and five out of the seven sea turtle species. However, all these

rich seas are under the direct and indirect threats of overpopulation, urbanization, and climate change.

Below Sea Level is a localized initiative that aims to spread awareness on underwater ecology in the Philippines and how it affects livelihood and climate.
Our short term goals include education campaigns on specific areas of concerns such as coral reefs, marine creatures, marine protected areas, and acceptable fishing practices and how all these

affect our day to day lives. Our long term goal is to establish coral restoration projects in the Visayas as a climate mitigation initiative.
