Miraculous Medal Parish - Calumpang, Iloilo City

The Parish of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal is a typical parish in the Archdiocese of Jaro, located on the west coast of Iloilo City. From the Archbishop’s Palace in the District of Jaro, it is more or less 7 kilometers southwest; and from Iloilo City’s seat of government, it is 5 kilometers west.

It is bounded on the north, by Batiano River; on the south, by Iloilo – Guimaras Strait; from the east, starting at Batiano Bridge, it stretches 3 kilometers towards the west at the boundary of the Municipality of Oton. The total land area is approximated at 229 hectares.

The Parish is composed of 7 Barangays, namely: Calumpang, San Juan, Boulevard, Habog Habog, Calaparan, Sto. Niño Norte, and Sto. Niño Sur. The first four belongs to the District of Molo and the other three to the District of Arevalo.

The total population as of the year 2010 is 12,561 households or 61,138 individuals. The population growth rate is 1.02 % per year. Of the total number of the population: 90% are Catholics; 85% are informal dwellers; 75% live below poverty line; and 40% (of the 75 %) are poorest of the poor.
