More about Light & Space Contemporary

Light and Space Contemporary was founded in 2010 by brothers Jason Tecson and Joseph Tecson whose family generously committed their former warehouses and offices in Quezon City, Philippines for the establishment of an art gallery. Its principal focus is the representation of young and contemporary artists whose diverse practices include painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, and photography. While it began as an artist-run initiative through the help of artists, Pow Martinez, Jeona Zoleta, and Jigger Cruz, it included in its objectives to strive for the future of art by discovering new talent and to further artists’ careers by supporting the production, presentation and sale of their work. Light and Space Contemporary is a unique institution in the Manila art scene; functioning as a community arts center that hosts exhibitions alongside musical performances, stage plays, and special film screenings.

Through its partnerships with other institutions, Light and Space accommodates artists working in different territories through an artist-in-residence program. Since the beginning, resident artists have played an important role in organizing exhibitions and in extending the network of the institution. The gallery offers other services aligned with its goal to be a venue for creative dialogue and a laboratory in stimulating artistic innovation such as fabrication and printing services specialized for artistic purposes. The program is best characterized by its adherence to a rigorous curatorial model that perseveres to represent not merely a look and feel but a philosophy concerning art’s role in a broader intellectual, cultural and social milieu.

Light and Space – The Fort

Through the initiatives of its curator, Geronimo Cristobal, Jr., Light and Space has partnered with some of its patrons for the establishment of a new location in the business district of Fort Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, Metro Manila which is slated to open in November 2013. Its exhibition schedule reflects L&SC’s continued pursuit for an international program of contemporary art.
