America's love for the motorcycle began in 1900 when bicycle racer George Hendee and engineering wizard Carl Oscar Hedstrom unveiled their first creation, the 1901 Single. The trade name chosen for their innovative machine would signify "a wholly American product in pioneering tradition".

The name was Indian.

When Polaris Industries acquired Indian Motorcycle® in 2011, we knew that to successfully design an all-new Indian® motorcycle, we had to get out and ride. We needed to truly understand what had made the riding experience so unique. Our designers and engineers spent countless hours researching and riding Indian motorcycles to capture the brand’s style, performance and ride experience DNA for the new bike.
