　　　From the early 1980’s up to the present, the Philippines has not been immune to the battering of economic downturns, and this has predictably aggravated the cost of medical care.
　　　
　　　To answer the unending rise in the cost of medical services, a group of medical doctors and businessmen formulated a plan to put up the first HMO in the Philippines. This was when Health Maintenance Plan, Inc was born.
　　　
　　　Health Maintenance, Inc., (HMI) became the first legally registered Filipino corporation organized to function as a Health Maintenance Organization [HMO]. It was formally incorporated on May 04, 1981 with it’s corporate name Health Maintenance Plan, Inc.
　　　
　　　Drawn from the U.S. Health Maintenance Organization concept, HMI’s approach is basically to provide a comprehensive pre-paid health care membership program that is within the affordable reach of all Filipinos.
