Gubat is a town located in the east-coast part of Sorsogon Province in Bicol region. It is 621 kilometers away from Manila. It is bounded on the North by the Municipality of Prieto Diaz and Bacon District of Sorsogon City , on the South by the Municipality of Barcelona, on the West by the municipalities of Sorsogon and Casiguran, and on the East by the vast Pacific Ocean.

The town was formerly known as Aramag, one of the early settlements in Sorsogon.
'Gubat' was named by Spanish missionaries during the numerous surprised raids of the Moro joangas.

The main economic resources in the municipality is agriculture and fishery. Farmers and fisher folks consisted most of the population. The fisher folks maintain the protection of the biodiversity in the Gubat Bay that gives the populace a sustainable source of income. Furthermore, local products like the palay, copra and other handicrafts also become the economic backbone of the municipality.

Tourism in the municipality is also in high regard. The long stretch of coastline from Barangay Rizal to Barangay Bagacay gives the town a majestic attraction for the tourists, local and international alike.

Gubat is the newest hub for surfer enthusiasts. The friendly waves is perfect for beginners. Private resorts offer surfing clinic to those individuals who wishes to learn the basics of surfing.

If one is not into surfing, Gubat offers snorkeling and diving. Healthy coral reefs and various species of fish can be seen underwater.

Native products such as sleeping mats (banig), bags and other handicrafts made from 'karagumoy' (palm grass or also known as pandan leaves) are available at the town center.

Gubat is also becoming a home of culinary. Growing numbers of restaurants offering french-italian and Filipino cuisines can be found in town.

Visitors can check-in at resorts located in Barangays Buenavista and Rizal. Gubat also promoting home-stay program for the tourists/visitors to integrate with the locals.
