Green Enivro Management Systems (GEMS), Inc. is established to provide a facility that converts fruit wastes into high-value products. It uses a new and proprietary technology developed at the University of San Carlos (USC) in Cebu City, Philippines. It also has preference to provide jobs to marginalized people in the locality.
The company began its operations in 2012 with initial funding from angel investors. Its 2,500 square meter processing facility is located on a one-hectare plot in Bankal, Lapu-lapu City, Cebu, Philippines. As its only major input stream, GEMS converts the wastes from the mango processing facilities into valuable products. It also harnesses renewable energy (solar energy) for its operations.
