Golden Beans & Grains Producers Cooperative - GBGPC

Established in 2013, GBGPC envisions to increase production and processing of soybean through farmer capacity building and sustainable management of soil while creating livelihood opportunities for our members and providing healthier food options to consumers. Despite our relative newness, we have embarked on various activities and have taken on the necessary steps towards fulfilling our goals.

One of the cooperatives who partnered with Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (DA-PhilMech) in the implementation of the project “Pilot Testing Integrated Soybean Production-Processing Technologies towards Accelerating the Development of the Local Soybean Industry in the Philippines”, we organized our members with some focused on production while others are on product development, processing, and marketing. Through the help and support of partners which include BAR, Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI), Central Luzon State University (CLSU), DA-PhilMech, and DA-Region 3 High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) Field Office, GBGPC members were awarded with seeds and soybeans and were trained on soybean production and processing.

Following an agreed upon scheme that all soybean produced by our farmer-members will be bought by the cooperative, our members then switched to soybean production. However, despite the seeds adaptability to local soil condition, which showed lots of promise, our soybean production areas were hit by typhoons, which led to delays and damages in production. In spite of this, GBGPC members planted soybean again once the area was cleaned for we trust that it is still more beneficial and profitable to bank on soybean than other crops. At the moment, we are planting soybean seeds from CLSU and DA RFO3 is financing these.

GBGPC is now processing soybeans into soymilk, tofu, soybean roast (pure, 3 in 1 and 4 in 1 with turmeric), hot and chilled taho, soy pandesal, lugaw de tokwa, sisig de tokwa, and soybean by-products such as soy longganisa, soy embutido, pastillas, polvoron, crinckles and soy ice cream, soy siomai, .
