About the Eye Referral Center

The Eye Referral Center was established in 1980 by an alliance of dedicated doctors who are recognized in the world for their lifelong achievements and service. These founders are now hailed as the visionaries of Philippine Ophthalmology. We are the first center in the country that exclusively caters to the eye care needs of patients.

WE BROUGHT THE PHILIPPINES INTO THE MODERN AGE OF OPHTHALMOLOGY.

When only those who can afford to go to the USA or Europe can save themselves from blindness due to Diabetes, the ERC brought the 1st Eye Retinal Laser to the Philippines.

In the 1980's, if you have a retina problem your doctor will have to send you to the Eye Referral Center for a Flourescein Angiography. We have the most extensive record of FA results in the nation and our equipments were the only ones in the country.

The first Ophthalmic Technician in the Philippines, Edgar Buagas, is currently a manager in our eye center. With 32 years of experience behind him, he is regularly invited to deliver lectures to doctors and other ophthalmic technicians in all the major hospitals and universities.

The first Intralase LASIK or iLASIK was performed in the Eye Referral Center. The iLASIK has replaced the now obsolete LASIK procedure.

The first FDT laser was in the Eye Referral Center. The FDT is the only laser that does not distort the retina when treating abnormal blood vessels.

The first Laser Training Course for Doctors was held in the ERC. Now Ophthalmologists have the skills to treat your retina with lasers without needing to go into major surgery.

The first IOL Training Course was held in the ERC. Now you do not have to wear "egg-yolk-like" glasses after surgery because your doctor now has the skill to place a lens inside the eye.

No Ophthalmologist of any worth does not know the Eye Referral Center. A good majority of all Eye Doctors and Surgeons in the Philippines either trained in, or was trained by someone who trained in the ERC.

You do not need to be confined to the hospital after your eye surgeries. It was the Eye Referral Center who introduced the concept in the Philippines. This maverick concept revolutionized the way eye surgeries are done and made it into the safest type of surgery in the world.

OWNED AND RUN BY A SCIENTIFIC FOUNDATION

Owned and managed by the Glaucoma Research Foundation; a non-stock, non-profit DOST-accredited organization, the Eye Referral Center also serves as a venue for continuing advancement in education in the field of Ophthalmology.

Training symposia are regularly conducted to ensure that our local medical community remains updated with scientific developments.
