More about Dive7000

Dive7000 Resort was founded by Dr. Tim Sevilla (Doc Tim as he was affectionately called by his students and those close to him) in 1978. Many consider him the father of modern SCUBA in the Philippines. In his many years, he has trained thousands of divers the world over. He is a former PADI course Director, and in 2002 – was the first Filipino to ever receive the SSI Platinum Pro Plus Diver Award at the DEMA Convention in Las Vegas.
As early as the mid 1960’s, Dr. Tim Sevilla transplanted an entire coral reef on a huge rock formation not far from Dive 7000 Resort.
The conventional thinking of coral reef growth that has been transplanted during that time was considered impossible, but as history would have it, those critics have been proven wrong by Dr. Sevilla.
More than 50 years after his efforts, it is now a thriving dive area with the presence of small reef fish, soft and hard corals, and a small underwater shrine in the form of a cross which would aptly be called as the Cathedral Rock.
The said cross was blessed by Pope John Paul II and placed approximately 40 feet between peaks in carpeted coral in 1982 by Doc Tim and then Lt. Gen. Fidel V. Ramos who would eventually become the 12th president of the Republic of the Philippines in 1992.
Now, the Cathedral rock is one of the most visited dive site in the Philippines – a testament that Anilao and its surrounding municipalities remain a relevant player in the SCUBA industry in the Philippines.
Dr. Tim Sevilla passed away in 2008, and not in vain. His daughter Dorrisa Roberts-Sevilla, a staunch environmental advocate has since continued her father’s efforts of nature conservation and upkeep of the marine sanctuary in Batangas.
