More about Brgy. Barang, Paniqui, Tarlac

Around 1775 a group of settlers led by Simon Bayno from Paoay, Ilocos Norte settled in the place. They came to the place via Camiling which was then a progressive barrio of Paniqui at that time.

The settlers called their new found place San Juan del Monte in honor of their patron Saint San Juan Del Mundo and the terrain of the settlement which was a little bit mountainous. Mountain in Spanish means monte. Thus mountainous place was covered by thick forest. The settlers put up their "Kalapaw" (Nipa Hut) houses made up of temporary materials, and did some little clearings by cutting down the trees and burning them to plant crops for their subsistence. I a short span of time, this group of settlers multiplied in number and because of their industriousness and exceptional cooperation, their settlement became a progressive barrio in 1795.

Around 1805, a Pangasinan man known by the name "Asiong" , a barang blacksmith and vendor came to the place to sell his barang to the settlers. The word "Barang" in Pangasinan means "Big Bolo". He knew that the settlers needs very much his barang to be use to clear the place. The vendor cannot speak fluently in Ilocano so he had to converse with the settlers in Pangasinan. It so happened that the big bolo called barang in Pangasinan is also called "Baddang" in Ilocano. Many of the settlers bought big bolo from the vendor who had repeatedly called this item "Barang, barang, manaliw kayo'y Barang". From that time, the headman of this barangay named the place "Barang" after the famous big bolo he bought from the Pangasinense. The vendor was married one of the daughter of the Barangay Headman.

Barang was stablished as SITIO SAN JUAN DEL MONTE in 1775,
as BARANGAY SAN JUAN DEL MONTE in 1795, and
as BARANGAY BARANG in 1805.
