HOW BARANGAY STA.CRUZ CAME TO BE



During the latter part of the 15th century and the early part of 17th Century,the Barangay where I live had no name yet. It was in the wilderness were there were only few inhabitants who settled here.

Before,this Barangay was once a municipal cemetery of Fonda Anggoy , the original name of the town San Miguel,Iloilo.

According to one of the oldest folks living in this Barangay, she got a vision in her dream that a big luminous cross had appeared at the center of this place near the public plaza. All of a sudden, a mysterious voice from heaven was heard stating that the people should have a great faith in the cross where Jesus Christ was crucified and died to redeem the world . The cross seemed to sparkle like a fire in a spur of a moment.

The next day, some of the residents reported to the priest in town.They wanted to get the meaning of the dream / vision of the old woman.

The priest told the residents of this place that they would construct a concrete cross in the exact location as shown in the old woman’s vision in her dream.

Since the Barangay was name STA.CRUZ in honor of the Holy Cross where Jesus Christ died to redeem the world. Its Annual Patronal Feast falls every 3rd day of May.

Every Fiesta celebration, the residents have the 9-day Novena which starts from April 24- May 2 every year, a procession early in the morning before the mass starts is being participated by the devotees . At the end of the procession, a dream depicting the life of Sta. Elena and how she became a saint is always shown to make the viewers and devotees understands the essence of the celebration.

Presently a big and concrete cross is erected at the center of the barangay and served as a landmark of the place.
