Augustinian Sisters of Divine Love

Divine Love through the years:

1705 September 13
Venerable Cardinal Mark Anthony Barbarigo founded the Congregation of the Augustinian Sisters of Divine Love in Montefiascone, Italy

"Divine Love" aims to gather women committed to service to God and brethren. To live in the Charism: Called by the Spirit to Give Ourselves and to Be Consumed Totally to Love.

Love for Christ and for the Church is the most profound message of Barbarigo and strongly encouraged the ASDL Sisters to practice.

1988 June - Sr. Lucy Grey introduced Sonia Go about the congregation of the Augustinian Sisters of Divine and the sisters who were coming.

1988 July
The Fathers of the Order of Saint Augustine (OSA) introduced the ASDL Sisters to the OSA Contemplative Sisters of the Monastery of St. Rita with then Mother Superior Madre Elena Leva.
Srs. Matilde Fravolini and Eletta Mengarelli met Sonia Go for the first time in the monastery.

Sonia Go stayed in the monastery as well as Srs. Matilde and Eletta.
They visited His Eminence Ricardo Cardinal Vidal accompanied by Sr. Lucy Grey of the OSA contemplative.

Sr. Eletta and Sonia went to Dumaguete and Bacolod for a vocation campaign.

Srs. Matilde and Eletta left for Italy for Sonia's religious formation making her as the first Filipina ASDL Sister.

1989
Mother General of ASDL, Madre Fabiola Faraglia asked Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal's permission to buy a piece of land in Mohon with the assurance of ASDL's noble intention in Cebu, to practice and live its charism and to be witnesses of love in the service of the brethren through catechism, spiritual exercises, and offer education of the youth and the upliftment of women in the society.

Fr. Ambrosio Galindez, OSA, encouraged the ASDL to put up a high school in Mohon.

The Father Provincial of the Order of Saint Augustine, Fr. Eusebio B. Berdon supported the ASDL Sisters in facilitating the application and request.

1989 March 22
Cardinal Vidal gave his go-signal to the ASDL to buy a piece of land in Mohon.

1989 May
Sr. Agata Moroni and Sonia Go, now a postulant of the ASDL came back to Philippines to purchase a lot in Mohon. They went around Cebu and met another aspirant Julie Quinatadcan.

1989 September – October
Srs. Eletta and Rosanna came to Philippines to start to form a community of the first ASDL Sisters in Mohon, Talisay, Cebu.

1989 December
ASDL Sisters transferred to a house they rented and eventually bought it.
The house is located adjacent to the lot where the ASDL convent will be built.

1990 February
Sr. Rosanna returned to Italy. Later in the year, Sr. Rita came to Philippines to replace Sr. Rosanna.

1990 May
Sr. Eletta returned to Italy.

1990 September
Sr. Rosalia Mamprin and Sr. Sonia Go arrived from Italy to replace Sr. Eletta.
They started to put a concrete fence around the newly purchased land.

1990 November
ASDL Sisters informed Cardinal Vidal of their intention to work in the Archdiocese of Cebu and specified that they will focus on catechesis, Christian education, spiritual exercises and prayer encounters.

1991
Sr. Rita returned to Italy and Sr. Dolores Pareja came to Philippines.

1991 June
ASDL Sisters started to operate and work on their Nipa-Amakan Day Care Center.

1991 September
The Simple Profession of vows of Sr. Sonia Go.

1991 May
ASDL was given the permission to establish a house in Mohon, Talisay.
An official acceptance from the Archdiocese of Cebu was issued on May 16, 1991.

1991 August
Mother General Madre Fabiola Faraglia, in a letter, informed Apostolic Nuncio in the Philippines Gianvincenzo Moreni of the beginning of the ASDL works in Cebu which include teaching religion as a subject in the public elementary schools and helping the parish in all of its activities.


1992
ASDL Sisters started the construction of the convent.

1992 April 14
A letter declared a Decree on the Canonical Erection of the house in Mohon, Talisay.

The Mother General laid out some points on what activity and works of the ASDL can begin.

The construction of school was highly recommended by then Sto. Niño de Mohon parish priest
Fr. Ambrosio Galindez, OSA, particularly a high school with low tuition fee.

Divino Amore Academy (formerly Divine Love High School) is a private sectarian school that derives its mission from the apostolate of the Augustinian Sisters of Divine Love. Their charism is to give witness to the mystery of God's love by means of a life totally consecrated to His praise and to the service of their brethren by dedicating themselves principally to the education of children and youth and to the teaching of catechism.
Thus, Divino Amore Academy exists primarily to uplift the poor, especially the youth, through Gospel-oriented quality education.

The institution started in 1993 from humble beginnings, the use of a make shift classroom from wooden materials and a bamboo flag pole raised with an improvised layers of wood as stage. Students and teachers alike experienced the discomfort of flood residues inside their classrooms as well as the unconditional triumphs of finally transferring to the two-story building.

With a very minimal tuition fee, students from Talisay and nearby places were given opportunity of an affordable and quality education.

The opening of Divino Amore Academy marked a new beginning of hope and a brighter future filled with Gospel values to the less - privileged residents of Talisay City .

Series of developments were made and some improvements were conducted; all these are made to cater the rising populace, to answer students' needs and to meet the standards set forth by the Department of Education.

After almost twenty five years of operation , Divino Amore Academy still looks forward to a more advanced , progressive , and consistent quality education and competent years of excellence with our dynamic , qualified and Gospel-oriented teachers paired with supportive , dedicated and Catholic - adhered administrators .


The institution continues to aim and produce not only persons of faith and character, but most especially God-fearing and Catholic-convinced men and women, whose life exemplify the Gospel values, and are imbued with sound and Christian principles of useful citizenship and social responsibility converted into action.
