Meet the Eye Specialists

Kristine Margaret E. Bacsal-Flores, MD, DPBO, MBAH
Dr. Bacsal-Flores took her residency in Ophthalmology at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital. She subsequently obtained her fellowship training at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC) where she treated people with cataracts, diabetic retinopathy and serious inflammatory diseases of the eye. She has published research papers in highly reputable international journals such as Ophthalmology and British Journal of Ophthalmology. She is a contributing author to a number of textbooks which are now standard references among budding eye doctors, such as Clinical Ophthalmology: An Asian Perspective and Atlas of Ocular Manifestations of Systemic Diseases. Most importantly, Dr. Bacsal-Flores has received commendations not only from SNEC but also from her patients for superb clinical and surgical results. Since she came back to the Philippines and co-founded APECS in 2007, she continues to be passionate in the training of eye doctors as she serves as Associate Clinical Professor at the UP College of Medicine; she is also affiliated with St Luke’s Medical Center.

Daniel N. Ong, MD, DPBO
Dr. Ong is a specialist in Cornea and External Eye Diseases who underwent residency and fellowship training at the Philippine General Hospital. He is a diplomate member of the Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the Philippine Cornea Society and the Philippine Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He also has a special interest in languages and language education, having worked as a news translator and as an English instructor for Chinese students.


Farlah Angela M. Salvosa-Sevilla, MD, DPBO, MBAH
Dr. Sevilla is a graduate of the UP College of Medicine. She completed her residency training and fellowship program in Ophthalmology at the Philippine General Hospital- Sentro Oftalmologico Jose Rizal. She further studied and received her Masters in Business Administration- Health from the Ateneo Graduate School Of Business. Her specialization includes medical and surgical management of Vitreoretinal Diseases, with particular interest in the prevention and treatment of Diabetic Retinopathy.


Aldous M. De Leon, MD, DPBO
Dr. De Leon is a graduate of the renowned University of the Philippines and Philippine General Hospital specializing in the care, prevention and treatment of common eye diseases such as cataracts. His field of expertise particularly focuses on the management of sight threatening conditions involving the retina such as diabetes, hypertension and age related degeneration.


Jaime Balingit Jr, MD, DPBO
Dr. Balingit underwent residency training in Ophthalmology at the Philippine General Hospital and went on to serve as Chief Resident of the Department. During this time he handled administrative and training responsibilities and focused on complicated and challenging cataract surgery cases. He underwent further training in Refractive Surgery at the Hongkong Sanatorium and Hospital.


Jonalyn A. Rodriguez, MD, DPBO
Dr. Rodriguez obtained her medical degree at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and subsequently took her residency in Ophthalmology at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital. During her senior year, she was appointed Assistant Chief Resident for Training. She also received a special recognition for Academic Excellence in Ophthalmology Residency. At the same institution, she pursued her interest in Corneal Transplantation through her External Disease and Cornea fellowship.
