HISTORY OF SOLSONA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Year 1968, the dream of the people of the northeast of the town of Solsona has come – the birth of the Talugtog Barangay High School. This served five barangays - Talugtog, Darasdas, Nalasin, Lipay and San Julian. Mrs. Josefina Calucag, principal of Talugtog Elementary School was assigned to supervise and assist Talugtog Barangay High School.
The creation of the barangay high school was quite difficult but with the concerned efforts of the municipal mayor Hon. Irineo Cariaga, PTA President Ciriaco Miguel, District Supervisor Julian Dancel, Head Teacher Mr. Higino Gajeton and Principal of Sarrat National High School, (mother high school) Mr. Faustino B. Duque and Barangay Captains Honofre Agustin, Freddie Abad, Contante Deuz, Anastacio Bondoc and Cirilo Corpuz, there was nothing impossible.
It started with only 40 students, with Miss Zenaida Bartolome as the first teacher. For the first two years, it as within the compound of Talugtog Elementary School. Two years after, Brgy. Captain Honofre Agustin donated a lot where the school was transferred. It is a 2.5 kilometers away from the poblacion and along the highway. With the cooperation of the people and the municipality, a three-room Marcos Pre-fab building was erected. The population grew bigger so there was an increase in the number of teachers.
In 1970, came the birth of Bagbag Barangay High School. Mr. Pedro Juan, principal of Bagbag Elementary School was assigned to direct and assist Bagbag Barangay High School. In 1971, Maananteng Barangay High School existed. The principal of Maananteng Elementary School, Mrs. Teodoro Neri was assigned to oversee and assist Maananteng Barangay High School. These two high schools were also built through the leadership of Hon. Irineo Cariaga.
In 1971, the first graduation of Talugtog Barangay High School was held and in 1972, Ms. Vicky F. Parilla was appointed as one of the teachers. Salaries were very hard. For several times they could not receive any amount but since the spirit of service runs in the veins of the teachers, they still managed to teach the eager students.
Four years later, the Barangay High School was converted into Municipal High School known as the Solsona Municipal High School. It was not hard because again the people in the school, barangay and municipality cooperated with one another. The three barangay high schools were merged into one with Mrs. Vicky Parilla Corla, who was then a holder of a Masteral Degree in Administration and Supervision, was appointed as the first principal. The people behind its conversion to a municipal high school were: Vice Mayor Isidra Rivera who acted in behalf of Mayor Rolante M. Ganal, the members of the Sangguniang Bayan, the PTA and Dr. Jesus Palafox who was then the provincial schools assistant superintendent.
The men behind the school did not rest in making its progress. After a month, they worked out for its nationalization. In 1980, request for such has been forwarded through the help of then Congressman Antonio V. Raquiza and Deputy Minister Herminigildo Dumlao.
In 1983, the school was finally nationalized duly approved under Batasang Pambansa No. 292 thru the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports converting the Solsona Municipal High School into a national high school, known as Solsona National High School.
The school has extended its protective wings not only to the people of Solsona but also the youths of nearby barangays of Piddig, Carasi and Dingras.
The school has multiplied with 1,508 students, 50 permanent teachers, 16 permanent non-teaching personnel, 1 regular casual and 5 contractual employees.
The reward of a thing well done is to have done it. The Solsona National High School has been vigorously working for its mission. It is making and building its name popularly known in the division as well as in the region. It has produced efficient, competent graduates in their own ways. It has grown a better school that it could now rightly claim to line itself up among the other national high schools in the region.

Inch by inch, SNHS has risen up to the zenith of academic excellence, the promotion of cultural activities, the promotion of sports activities through resource management, innovations in academics, staff welfare and community relations. As SNHS leap forward in power, the school has its sight veneered to what tomorrow holds.
