HISTORY OF INFANT KING ACADEMY
Infant King Academy is the first and only secondary Catholic school institution of learning in Cortes. The seed of the idea for the establishment of IKA was sown through a casual conversation between the bishop Manuel Mascariñas of the Diocese of Tagbilaran and the Municipal Mayor of Cortes, Bohol, the late Hon. Diosdado Renegado. Everybody in Cortes, Bohol fetched in to help. Donors poured in. Work was at fever pitch. Rev. Fr. Herminigildo Hangad, Cortes-born parish priest and Bishop Mascariñas gave full backing.
After the rough edges were chiseled smooth, IKA opened her door on June 2, 1968. But it took 11 years after, on December 14, 1979 that she received her stamp of recognition by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS). She started with an enrollment of 116 fresh graduates from the Cortes Elementary School for the first and secondary years. The institution harvested her first fruit of graduates in 1971 with 18 boys and girls.
Today, she has accommodated over 550 students from the public schools of Cortes, Bohol, and neighboring towns.
