There is a specialized hospital and health institution which is under the wing of controlled corporate National Centers for Specialized Health Care under the Philippine’s Department of Health. This is the Philippine Children’s Medical Center and it is a tertiary capacity hospital that is mandated to provide pediatric care, give additional training programs for medical and allied healthcare providers, and be a specialized center for clinical research. Much of the work done by doctorsand other medical professionals here in the Medical Center is similar to that of your typical hospitals but there are also a wide array of general and subspecialty services that this medical facility does that branch out to other various branches in the medical field. There is focus on pediatrics, surgery, allied medicine, adolescent medicine, ambulatory medicine, hematology and oncology, infectious disease, nephrology, pulmonology, intensive care, neonatology, neurodevelopmental pediatrics, psychiatry, neurology, perinatology, pediatric gynecology, pediatric surgery, pediatric and perinatal anesthesia, radiology, dentistry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, medical technology and nursing.

Research Thrusts
The medical center adapts the “Essential National Health Research” or ENHR in providing overall direction in the formulation of its research activities in the country. The research will narrow down the common causes of morbidity and mortality that affect Filipino children,and with current expertise will use methods and techniques like pediatric neurological diseases, perinatal medicine, neonatology, pediatric intensive care, ultrasound medicine, and pediatric dentistry. These multi-disciplinary collaborations will be conducted inside and outside of the institution.

Research Manpower
Lately, the PCMC has 163 medical consultants and 1.84 percent of them are active and do their duties full time. Then 39.26 percent of them are part-time and 58.90 percent are on honorarium basis in the medical center. There are also there are 46 residents and 13 fellows per year whodo their share of research and submit research papers. Some of their medical collaborations can either be individually sought or accomplished by group.
