More about Matagbak Elementary School

Sitio Matagbak is not a residential place before. There were only tall trees, rough roads, and nipa huts, some says it looks like “deserted and ethereal place”, however, years have passed, Sitio Matagbak is no longer considered as deserted and ethereal place because it is now very progressive for the reason that, some well-to-do families enjoyed the picturesque of the place and decided to buy some land, soon relocated. Soon, the population has increased, on the other hand, it’s kind of hard for the residents especially for their children to travel far to get to school, and at last in 1994, PES Central had built an undersized annex which consists of two rooms, having of course two minor grade levels and the pioneers, Mrs. Editha Bornales and Mr. Joel Zamora, committed themselves to such noble profession to teach every child that are determined to learn even though the school is too small and not everybody handles a book.

As the years passed, the population increased, the place had developed, and more pupils go to school. This humble school at Sitio Matagbak is no longer an annex of PES Central; it is now our very own school, Matagbak Elementary School. Though it has only three rooms, it considered as a big school because it has a complete grade level, and for the residents of Matagbak, they don’t have to travel far to town just to go to school. In addition, Matagbak Elementary School was formerly still under the supervision of PES Central principals, however, in October 2013, Miss Elisa M. Pendon was assigned in Matagbak Elementary School as a school head thus making it a complete elementary school.

Formerly, the programs in the school were held on the playground because there was no stage. With the help of the preschool teacher’s husband Engr. Remigio Abalos, and the preschool parents, the school was able to put up a temporary which was use up to the present.

From 2003-2006, the principal holds her office in a “kubo” built by the parents and PTCA Officers, and in 2007, YNARES School Building was constructed and the school became bigger and bigger as it looks for the past decade until in 2009, YCC Gym had been constructed, and the Water Station in front of the school, still in the supervision of Miss Elisa M. Pendon.

Another year had passed, in 2010, another School Head, Mrs. Mary Ann A. Rubio, allotted the place of Miss Elisa M. Pendon after she retired. Too many things as well, in Mrs. Rubio’s regime had been accomplished, such as; the reconstruction of the old building of the school through the assistance of GMA Foundation; the construction of the School Canteen through the assistance of Rotary Club; the concrete pathway for the pupils don’t suffer the muddy way; and two comfort rooms for the pupils through the assistance of the Rotary Club as well.

In 2012, Mrs. Rubio had been promoted as Principal I, and transferred to Niogan Elementary School and another School Head, Mrs. Abella A. Amican took her place. Mrs. Amican stayed at Matagbak Elementary School for over a year, she got promoted and transferred to Bugarin Elementary School, and she was replaced by Mr. Eduardo L. Isles from Bugarin Elementary School as well. Mr. Eduardo L. Isles is presently the School Head of Matagbak Elementary School.
