More about Kaligayahan Elementary School

On the year 1968, the government bought a one-hectare land (10,000 sq. m) owned by Mr. and Mrs. Eulalia Rivera. The move was to give Novaliches E/S. Binugsok Annex a permanent place and title of its own. Since then, this annex came to be Kaligayahan Elementary School, a name derived from the place and in compliance with the people’s request.

History says that KES, before, was a forest with big mango, star apple, jackfruit, tamarind and duhat trees. There was no electricity, no houses around, and road was rocky and muddy especially when rainy season. As years went by, and in order to develop and improve the school, they begun to cut down these big trees, leaving behind some mango, tamarind and the famous duhat tree known as “Tandang Sora Tree”. Teachers and pupils are aware that this duhat tree has a place in history. According to old residents of the place, particularly the owner of the lot, it is under this tree, it’s wide spreading shady branches, that Melchora Aquino, or Tandang Sora treated wounded revolutionary soldiers, who walked through from the forest of Banlat, to Brgy. Kaligayahan. This beautiful memory and history is a part of KES heritage, the reason why until now this old tree, which won Third Place in the Centennial Tree contest in the year 2000, was being treated and cared for by KES staff, pupils and the community.
