“And I will establish my covenant with you;...”- Genesis 9:11a

According to Nelson’s Bible Dictionary, covenant is an agreement between two people or two groups that involves promises on the part of each to the other. The Hebrew word for “covenant” probably means “betweenness,” emphasizing the relational element that lies at the basis of all covenants. Human covenants or treaties were either between equals or between a superior and an inferior. Divine covenants, however, are always of the latter type, and the concept of covenant between God and His people is one of the most important theological truths of the Bible.

Covenant is a word that gives us assurance. It strengthens and enable our hearts to continue and to regain our might. As believers, God’s covenant to us is so powerful that it lightens any heavy burdens we are carrying. Today, where vows are made to be broken and where commitment pays no attention, God’s covenant shines. As we dig and meditate God’s Word we will find great deal of God’s promises to His children, us. His promises that will never be broken. Promises that will last and without exemption. The promises you can depend on.

Promise of Redemption. Men walk away from God. He made a decision that developed eternal gap to him and to His Creator. But in spite of the sinfulness of humankind God’s love prevail. His unfailing love constructed the plan of salvation for humanity. He united the gap through Jesus Christ that whosoever will believe on Him should not perish but will have eternal life. That’s the covenant of deliverance He once made, and that will last forever.

The Promise of Protection. Our stubbornness and disobedience always lead us to destruction. This might be the reason why we are always hoping for someone to guard and defend us. Others pledge to protect us, but only God’s covenant can give us an assurance that whatever mistake we committed, no matter how far we might gone through, His unweaving security will shelter us. His loving hands will safeguard us.

The Promise of Provision. It is easy to trust His ability to supply when everything seems alright and in control, but what if the one you’re expecting failed? Some of us will see that situation as disappointment, but for God it is where His giving hands take place. You will only be able to see the fullness of God’s covenant to supply all your needs when you’ve reach the edge of your hands. So why worry when God’s promise is there.
