FORMER CHIVES History

Chives name came from an herb and it is used in culinary. Chives is the common name of Allium schoenoprasum, the smallest species of the edible onion genus. A perennial plant, it is native to Europe, Asia and North America. A schoenoprasum is the only species of Allium native to both the New and the Old Worlds.
Chives Cafe and Patisserie was established by the Department of Hospitality Management, College of Home Science and Industry, Central Luzon State University. It was formally opened to the public on March 15, 2010 at Philippine-Sino Center for Agricultural Technology (PhilSCAT) located at Maharlika highway, CLSU Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija. PhilSCAT is the first grant project of the Peoples' Republic of China (PROC) in the Philippines, was established to provide quality technical products and services of agricultural modernization for a sustainable agro-industrial development; and consequently, improve the quality of life of the people it serves and initiates transformations in the countryside to achieve peace and prosperity. Chives Café and Patisserie was first located at PhilSCAT building the name Chives is related to the theme of PhilSCAT that time. The Department of Hospitality Management (DHM) transferred to the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI) Office at the Research Building CLSU in 2012.
It is the hands-on laboratory that develops the skills of students of Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management.
Central Luzon State University (CLSU) is a state university located in a 658-hectare campus in Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. The University is the lead agency of the Muñoz Science Community and the seat of the Regional Research and Development Center in Central Luzon. To date, CLSU is one of the premiere institutions for agriculture in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia and known for its research in aquaculture, small ruminant, crops, orchard, and water management.
